    Trunk won't open???

For some reason, my trunk won't open! The button on my key fob won't work nor will the trunk release button inside. I can't even open it from the button on the trunk itself when all doors are unlocked.

Anyone experience this problem before? I don't have time to take it to the dealer till Saturday and can't even read the manual to look up this malfunction because it's too big to fit in the glove box. Originally Posted by 2swift.

Check the valet lock switch in the glove box. I had the same problem -- when I was trying to catch a plane and all my luggage was in the trunk.

It was indeed the valet switch in the glove box. I don't know if it moved a little bit after I hit a bump or what, but moving it to lock and then unlock position allowed the remote to work again. I still made my flight. Originally Posted by Dubbedoutbimmer. Originally Posted by tintivilus. Trunk wont open

Been having this problem the last few days where my trunk would not open unless I use the key inserted into the key hole at the trunk. The only thing I can think of is I actually locked the glove box with the key put my wallet in there while running about a week ago and by putting the key in the glove box hole it must set off the switch. I was going to drive to the dealer tomorrow but this thread saved me.

Thanks for this discussion. Trunk locks working normally. Why is there no mention of that switch in owner's manual or Bentley? My several months old problem is solved with "a flick of a switch".

The things you learn in this place. Had absolutely NO clue that there was a "valet" switch for the trunk in the glove box until I read it here and looked in the glove box for myself. So, there's actually a use for the key in the key fob. Throw the truck lock switch in the glove box and lock the glove box with the key. Yeah, I know just. BTW, I "found" the mini-flashlight in the glove box, when I read another thread which said there "should" be one there too!

Here's where I found the explanation for that: Last edited by SSW; at I've owned my i for over 5 yrs and I never even knew this switch existed, nor ever saw it. My trunk was locked for the past 2 days and couldn't figure out why. My 6yr old son must have inadvertently moved it the other day while in the car.

Thanks for the info e90 post. Well, make me 8 or whatever. I just got my car two days ago F30 d and I was showing the car off to a buddy and voila! I'm assuming it's the magical valet switch in the glove compartment and will check that out tomorrow.
