The badge on the grille and trunk of the car you drive says as much about you as the clothes you wear, and more and more often, people are shelling out extra cash just to have a bit of that panache. Luxury automakers have listened, too, with many offering their most affordable sedans and SUVs to date.

    The idea is to hook more buyers at younger ages, and to turn them into brand loyalists. That leaves the Audi A3 as a rival to the rest of the Germans, and one that certainly looks the part.

    Is it truly worthy of the four-ringed badge, or is it just a glorified Volkswagen in a nice suit? I took the wheel of the A3 Quattro 2. By paving the way for aggressive headlight designs, massive, trapezoidal grilles, and LED signatures on every car, somewhere along the way every car started to look a bit like an Audi.

    I like the simple, clean, upside-down checkmark LED headlights, and the angular, crisscross taillights are, in my opinion, the best looking of any Audi model.     I was following another A3 on the highway, and until I got up close enough, I was unable to tell if it was an A3, A4, or A6. Personally, I really like the simplicity of the design. Concentrating climate controls to one strip of buttons and putting all of the infotainment controls down by the shifter represents an ergonomic masterpiece, and I love the vents that can point in any direction and be turned on or off with a twist of the surrounding metal ring.
